Your American insurance will not cover you in Europe. You’ll need to purchase the additional rental insurance. You also may be able to purchase short term European insurance, though I don’t know if it will be any cheaper.
better get it. i rented in Canada, got back home, and found out that i should have taken it
You should absolutely buy the coverage offerred by the car rental company in Europe. Most will include it as an automatic charge.
Your US coverage is no use over there.
